There are many wonderful characteristics to take advantage of in Dallas. The city has an abundance of restaurants, bars and shopping options. In addition there are several museums and other points of cultural interest. Not to mention your choice of professional sports to take in. 1.2 million people call Dallas home and for good reason. However, it’s not all fun in Dallas. There are some parts that you wouldn’t want to live in and some parts that you wouldn’t even want to visit. Dallas, just like every other neighborhood has its share of ugly neighborhoods.
The neighborhood of 2nd Avenue and Hatcher Street is one that you would want to steer clear of whether you are house hunting or just visiting Dallas. This neighborhood made the list of the top 25 most dangerous neighborhoods in the nation. There are approximately 230 violent crimes every year in this area and your chances of becoming a victim in one year are 1 in 8. The violent crime rate per 1,000 people is 131.
Another neighborhood to avoid is Route 352 at Scyene Road. This isn’t so much of a neighborhood as it is a major street. It is advised from various sources to take caution along all parts of this street. The area has a high crime rate and many of the homes and apartments in these neighborhoods are in poor condition or have been neglected in quite some time.
Fair Park is another area that might not be a top choice for residents. It is helpful as a unique public space to hold concerts and other large gatherings but the area surrounding it has some older homes that aren’t well maintained. There have been a lot of reported theft incidents involving cars that have been parked in the area while owners were enjoying an event inside the concert venue.
Pleasant Grove is another area that has developed a reputation for high crime and run down neighborhoods. Even local police have described this area as one of the hardest to patrol over night. In recent years crime has driven families out of Pleasant Grove. The good news is that residents of this area are interested in turning things around. Hopefully with continued effort, this neighborhood will get a revival and an increase of residents.
Harry Hines is another area that people looking for a nice residential area tend to avoid. This area is known for selling cheap anything. Whether you are looking for designer knockoff items or a cheap and unique gift, this is the place to go. While you can take advantage of the cheap prices you might not be as safe shopping here as you could if you were to head to a traditional mall. It is recommended that shoppers only go to this area when it is light outside.
If you are looking for a new home in Dallas, touring the area yourself is the best way to determine what you will like about the neighborhood. It won’t take much to tell how attractive the homes are, how safe the area is and whether or not you would like to come home to the area every day. While there are other neighborhoods that might be considered ugly in Dallas, these are at the top of the list of places to avoid in the area.
